GARGOYLES (2016)
"Mount your brooms, please." Harry clambered onto his Nimbus Two Thousand. Madam Hooch gave a loud blast on her silver whistle. Fifteen brooms rose up, high, high into the air. They were off."
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Quidditch, the beloved sport from the Harry Potter universe crafted by J.K. Rowling, has transcended fiction and became reality. Originally played in the air by wizards and witches on flying broomsticks, in the adapted game the players run with the broomsticks between their legs instead of flying.
For four months, I documented the journey of a Quidditch team based in Ghent, Belgium. Proudly known as the Ghent Gargoyles.
This project intertwines my fascination with people and their interactions with the world around them. The images capture not just the physicality of the game but also the spirit and camaraderie of the players, providing a glimpse into how they navigate the boundaries between fantasy and reality.
